Nearly a third of the way through Secret Obsession—Netflix’s latest lackluster thriller—I couldn’t help but wonder why I was still watching. The film’s trailer had already revealed the dramatic plot twist (spoilers ahead): After getting hit by a car and losing her memory, Jennifer Williams (Brenda Song) realizes that the man taking care of her and claiming to be her husband Russell (Mike Vogel) is, in fact, a fraud who murdered her family members in order to finally claim her love. It’s your typical romance turned stalker plot, one that fans of shows like Lifetime’s You are sure to devour. Nevertheless, despite its intentionally corny twists and turns, I was intrigued. So intrigued that I watched it twice in one evening, marveling at the true amazement that is Vogel’s jawline.
