Uber pushes into drone delivery for food - Biz Women
Uber Technologies Inc. wants to launch food-delivery drones by 2021, as the ride-hailing company continues to diversify its menu of business lines.
The San Francisco-based company posted a job ad for a executive to spearhead the initiative, which is likely to face both technical challenges and regulatory scrutiny, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“We need flying burgers,” said CEO Dara Khosrowshahi at a Uber flying taxi conference in May, according to the Journal.
The move comes as the company is also developing a new short-term staffing business, called Uber Works, that would uses its on-demand workforce to staff events and corporate parties with waiters or security guards. The company is also pushing ahead on a new tractor-trailer rental business called Powerloop.
